A great machine!!
This thing is a beast. We use Fujitsu scanners for work (fi-6130Z) and while it’s not this exact model, in the three years of using those, I’ve never had a single one break or run into any issues. These are no different. Aside from simple paper, we would scan plastic photo ID’s and even insurance cards and these things never flinched. I’m supposing I’d have the same performance with this model. Ever since breaking it out of the box and installing it I’ve been slaying paper from all around my home. It just scans and scans and scans and I’ve recycled year’s worth of papers in only a few weeks. I figure that by the end of the year I’ll be mostly, if not completely, paper free. The quality of the scanning seems on point and even auto-detects whether it should be color or black and ... This thing is a beast. The quality of the scanning seems on point and even auto-detects whether it should be color or black and white or grayscale. Of course, you can manually change these automatic parameters. The resolution is great and can equally be customized from the auto-settings. The speed is great. At work, I was only using single-sided scanning, so it took slightly longer to do sets of documents but with duplex or double-sided scanning, my scanning time has been exponentially reduced. I could do a scanning session of 30 minutes to an hour and just be dumbfounded by how much paper I’m getting rid of. Compared to other brands I’ve seen in store or on TV, those don’t look like they scan as fast as this brand. The software itself isn’t bad and I can’t really give it a comparison because I’ve never used any similar scanning/organization software before. In either instance, it suits my needs and I’m easily able to choose how to use my scan; it gives me the option to save as a file, send to my email, phone, or even to DropBox. I usually scan for archival purposes so saving to a file is my usual choice. Setup itself isn’t that hard and I originally set it up on a computer with XP but have since migrated to using it on a Windows 10 computer. Depending on your OS, setup shouldn’t be hard at all. I haven’t used the wireless scanning feature although I saw it being used that way at a demonstration at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas back in 2015 and you couldn’t tell any difference that it was wired or not. I have every faith in the feature should I decide to use it in the future. Overall, I’ve been happy with this product for about two months now. If you’re looking to do a lot of scanning or are simply digitizing documents to go paper-free, this is your solution. Highly recommended.

Amazing scanner with the companion software
I bought my unit used "as-is". I knew they were built like tanks. Mine powered up but wouldn't feed the paper without pushing on the paper. The pickup rollers are a wear item that Fujitsu recommends replacing every 200,000 sheets. Mine only had 36,000 sheets on the counter. I used a couple of treatments with CaiKleen RBR Liquid, Oiler Dispenser Concentrate 25 mL - RBR100L-25C rubber rejuvenator on the rollers. This fixed the feed problem and it has been running like a champ ever since. I've setup my own custom scan profiles in the ScanSnap Home software. Most documents I scan directly to Evernote. I have the profiles setup to create searchable pdf files, which works well. I have another profile to scan spiral bound books (unbind before feeding of course). This thing processes an amazing ... This is a two-sided page scanner, in that it scans both sides of the paper at the same time, which makes it fast. It might take a little bit to initially get everything setup and configured. You will need the USB cable for initial setup. After you configure the wireless you can disconnect the USB cable. If you have a stack of paper, fan the paper to unstick the edges for better feeding. If you need to scan more than 50 pages into one document, select "Continuous Mode" in the profile, then put in 50 pages at time. The software will then pause in between loading stacks, and will automatically combine all of the stacks into one document. The software has a paper jam sense, so if there is a misfeed it will display the last page it reliably scanned, and it will allow you to feed from where it left off (start with page after the last reliably scanned page). This is a nice feature, in that you don't have to restart the entire document for a misfeed. When not in use, it compactly closes up to a small desktop footprint.

So far I am loving the Scansnap ix500. It was easy and quick to set up even though I didn't have a disc. I was easily able to find the software online. I got the scanner to scan workbooks for homeschooling. So far, I have scanned 3 books, the smallest one was 189 pages. I just pause the scanning to add more pages to the document feeder, make sure the last scanned page is correct, then continue. Depending on the workbook I'm scanning, I will keep the blank pages, or have the scanner skip them. The editor also makes it easy to add pages in the middle I'd a document, or delete pages. The scanner also doesn't take a super long time to go through all the sheets in the document feeder, maybe a minute so about 50-70 sheets front and back. The ScanSnap makes it easy to scan in most documents, receipts, cards, and brochures to your computer with high quality and fast speed. The software makes it easy to organize and do some basic editing, though I pair this with Adobe Acrobat for full editing capabilities. Invaluable to trying to go paperless.Really enjoy the ScanSnap ix500 scanner.
