Very swift shipping of 2 sets of D'Addario Chromes ECB81S bass strings - at a terrific price as well. I have similar Medium length strings on Guild Starfire II bases and like them a LOT for ease of play. I think they are no better nor worse than other sorts of strings I have used as far as pitch definition higher up the neck where pitch can get wonky. I haven't used these short scale strings on anything. Guild basses are short scale, but need Medium length strings because of the "harp" bridge.

    FIT PERFECT!

THESE SHORT SCALE FLAT WOUNDS FIT AND SOUND BEAUTIFUL ON THE NEW IBANEZ MICRO 5 STRING BASS. NOW ALL D'ADDARIO HAS TO DO IS MAKE THE 5 STRING SET. I HAVEN'T FOUND A 5TH "B" STRING TO FIT YET IN A FLAT WOUND.

  • Flat Wounds Warm and Smooth

These are a nice strings for a Short Scale Bass. I put them on a 30.3 scale Gretsch Bass and they really sound good! Not as bright as Round Wounds but twice as Smooth. I think they would work on a fretless fingerboard as well....

  • A bit dull on a small solid body SS bass

When asked to review the product, there are 3 opening questions that aren't of much use. "Is it enjoyable?" for one. Just odd. The flatwound Medium Scale Chromes worked well for the more open toned Guild Starfire II hollowbody, but are rather heavy toned for my shoer scale Gretsch Junior Jet II solid body. Afyer only a couple days I removed them and returned to EXL 170S roundwounda. The Gretsch has a wide tonal range that the Chromes stepped on. Also, the Gretsch has a small bridge and the thread/ yarn at the Chromea ball end sat right IN the nut slot of the E. I removed the string, slid a small stack of tiny washers over the string down to the ball (spool) and reinstalled. That "standoff" moved the thread out of the saddle. You could use a spool clipped off your old string to do the same. ...

  • Simply Great Strings

All my basses have flat wound strings on them. Recently I purchased a 1956 Danelectro bass reissue. It is a short scale bass. I needed flat wound strings and D'DDARIO ECB81S Chromes light strings are what I chose to string it with. These strings are great. They feel right. They give me good tension. The bass sound and plays great. Game over. I may never need new strings, but if I do, I will put the same strings on this bass.

  • Narrow ‘niche’ bass strings

Have (and build) basses. This was my first short scale. Someone recommended flat- wounds. Sounds ok but has a smooth-jazz kind of vibe. Prefer round wounds with a more chunky rock ‘thunk’ to em...
