Soccer Mania combines the concept of soccer and virtual LEGO worlds to create an arcade-style sports title for young kids. The game reintroduces the Brickster, and players can eventually take the field against him and his henchmen, the Bricksterbots, in Story Mode. They can also choose to play in Exhibition or LEGO Cup Mode, against 32 teams from different countries. With fields in different zones ranging from medieval castles to the planet Mars, one or two players can choose from a variety of options for gameplay. <br><br>Story Mode begins with players qualifying for races in hopes of ultimately winning the LEGO cup. If successful, a trophy will be presented to the player. The Brisckster soon steals the trophy, however, and Story Mode continues as players compete against other teams in an effort to retrieve it. As play progresses, members of defeated teams become available to add to the players' own rosters. Both a single-player and a multiplayer collaborative effort can be exerted in Story Mode.<br><br>LEGO Cup Mode pits players against other teams in a round-robin elimination. The tournament is divided into five rounds and from the second round on, players must win each match to progress to the next. Players can also choose to play a one-time game in Exhibition Mode, which supports two players. The game can be configured with custom selections such as fields and team rosters, or players can go directly to a game in Quick Start Mode with no setup required.<br><br>Various power-ups are available during each game and include Rocket Ball, Bomb Ball, Strong Man, and a Lucky Dip mystery power-up. Prior to beginning any mode of play, Skill Zones are on hand for practicing proficiencies such as shooting and dribbling, as well as unlocking characters for use in other modes of play. Controls can be configured to support a gamepad, joystick, or keyboard. In addition to the various LEGO worlds, inhabitants of Legoland are present as spectators, with competitors varying from skeletons and Martians to "regular" looking LEGO people.
