Die vollwertige Erweiterung wird eine neue, von den Fans favorisierte Fraktion, die von den Dunkelelfen angeführt wird, beinhalten. Die Dunkelelfen haben den Wald von Irollan verlassen, einen Pakt mit dem mysteriösen Gesichtslosen geschlossen und konnten so der Vernichtung entkommen. Sie wurden zu Abtrünnigen, heimlichen und verehrten Assassinen. Diese Fraktion wird in einer epischen Kampagne vorgestellt, die nicht nur unerforschte Gebiete von Ashan aufdeckt, sondern auch den mysteriösen Ursprung seiner Bewohner offenbart. Protagonist der Geschichte ist der Held Raelag, der bereits in Heroes V als Meister-Manipulator mit einer rätselhaften und dämonischen Vergangenheit eingeführt wurde. In der Standalone-Erweiterung werden seine frühen Jahre zurückverfolgt, als er die geheime Stadt der Fraktion in einer Zeit des Niedergangs und der Verzweiflung gegründet hat.
