The DT 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 SAM (SAL1855) is a compact and lightweight 3x zoom lens that covers the frequently used range of focal lengths between wide-angle 18mm and standard 55mm (35mm-format camera equivalent: 27-82.5mm). It is designed exclusively for use with a DSLRs incorporating an APS-C type image sensor. Weighing only 210g (approx.), this light, compact lens is ideal for a wide range of snapshots, portraits, and general-purpose photography. And with a minimum focusing distance of 0.25m and a maximum magnification ratio of 0.34, it can be used for macro shooting, too. Smooth AF operation is assured by a newly developed Smooth Autofocus Motor (SAM).

    Excellent Value

    I bought a Sony a6000 with 55-210 zoom. Later I found out I take a lot group shot specially on the cruise. I bought this 18-55mm lens recently. I got a very good pictures out of this lens. I used this to take some close-up pictures for my online listing. The pictures come out very sharp from this inexpensive kit lens. I owned some dSLR camera and lenses, but I love this lens.

    OOPS, mistake to buy this one....

    Bought this as a gift for my son's Sony a6000, but discovered that I'd need to get an adapter which costs 3-4 times more than the lens. I feel this is deceptive and that it should've been mentioned to non-professional photographers like me who wouldn't know that.

    Simple and easy to use

    This is a standard lens for the Sony Alpha range. Weather it be in the middle of the night or day this lens will take quality photos. Light trails and star photos come out looking crisp with minimal noise. This is a nice all rounder lens to use for beginner photographers to study the basics.
