Unfortunately, these shoes have a finish - similar to paint - on a fabric background. There were a few "smudges" pointed out on the sellers photos, but my guess is that the shipping journey caused the shoes to rattle around just enough to cause cracks in all the lengthwise areas. I explained & he immediately responded that he would refund when he returned home. Not his fault, stand up guy.
