I guess due to heat and temperature the cord was tightened in the spool. I loosened the the cord and end of problems. I did a lot of work and cord lasted a long time. I prefer to use only one spool only, the top one because I don't have too much experience filling the two spools. That is fine. I enjoy this product and glad I found it in Ebay
