I usually just immediately toss them in the recycle bin and purchase quality bolts, nuts and screws from a local hardware store but I tried to use the metal lag screws sent with the brackets. I believe they make them from recycled aluminum foil wrap. No amount of careful drilling of pilot holes to the correct size would get the lag screws to bite into the brackets.
