    EXCELLENT tool for the O Scale 3 Rail model railroader. It has four slots for the ballast to be distributed evenly on the track, an A+++++++++.

    As mentioned in the previous, this is an EXCELLENT tool for the O Scale 3 Rail model railroader. With the slots placed where they are, you're able to evenly distribute track ballast and fill it accordingly so that when you approach a switch, you're able to stop your ballasting, if you so choose.

    O GAUGE BALLAST SPREADER

    I PURCHASED THIS NEW BACHMANN 3 RAIL BALLAST SPREADER IN FEB. I PLACED IT ON THE TRACK AND POURED THE BALLAST IN, THE HOLES IN THE BOTTOM WHERE THE BALLAST COMES OUT ARE TOO BIG. THE BALLAST COMES OUT SO FAST YOU CAN'T SPREAD IT OUT EVENLY.

    Using the product

    I'm using this product with Woodland Scenic ballast for Lionel O gage track, I found that the ballast flows fast, especially at the sides and less in the middle of the track, to slow it down I taped the outside holes about 1/2 off and found it to work much better with a more uniform flow. I have experimented on a long section of straight to lean how to use the product, which I recommend anyone who buys this to do. After several attempts I got it to work for me.

    Does not work as advertised.

    It spread the ballast out unevenly, often most of it landing on the floor. Although it's durable I would not recommend it.

    Not worth it...

    Using this ballast spreader still leaves a lot of hand work to get it to look right. I just went to using a spoon and small brushes to do my track work.
