    I paid VAT when I bought the item but was then charged again by UK Customs plus courier fee. Seller just said it wasn't their fault but after finally getting Ebay to agree to refunding the first VAT, they said the seller filled out the forms wrongly. Informed seller so they don't do it for future buyers but just ignored me. A lot of unnecessary hassle.
