I decided to set up the violin, close my eyes and listen. I put on a set of silver wound Perlon strings. The sound was actually stunning. It was balanced, warm and bloomed with overtones. Looking inside the top and sides were indeed quartered but rough. The aesthetics of the wood betray the tone, so this may offer insight into airbrushing the violin. I like the tone. I’m keeping it.
