Synopsis
DAIM is the most extensive volume of Mirko Reisser' work. From 1989 to 2014, the catalogue retraces, with more than 300 colour images, the evolution of his style, the most important shows and the most representative pieces that allowed him to become well-known inside the international street art scene., Born 1971 in Lüneburg (Germany), currently living in Hamburg, Mirko Reisser has become known as an artist worldwide especially for his large size graffiti works in the 3D-style, in which he depicts his writer name DAIM in serial repetition and within processes of construction and deconstruction. The book Mirko Reisser (DAIM) 1989 - 2014 is the most extensive publication of the artist's oeuvre so far. The texts contained in the publication are from renowned authors: Johannes Stahl, art critic and curator, takes a look back at the historic roots of graffiti, in whose tradition the works of the artist certainly stand, but from whose liberation they also fight. By also explaining the technique of the artist, he makes it possible to look into the digital components that are involved in the process of realization of the works. Belinda Grace Gardner, known from numerous essays about topics of contemporary art in relevant publications, approaches the work of the artist from an art historical point of view. She examines signature as content and builds bridges to protagonists of conceptual art such as On Kawara with his date paintings and Hanne Darboven, she also draws conclusions about the connection of the works to concrete poetry. Arne Rautenberg, freelance author, artist and cultural journalist, not only discusses the works in his interview with Mirko Reisser, but also completes the text-contributions in this publication by giving an insight into the person that can be found behind them. The foreword of the book is written by Rik Reinking, art collector, dealer and curator, that has been following Reissers career since its beginnings. In his text he illustrates the relationship between collector and artist., DAIM is one of the most revolutionary graffiti artists of all time and this book offers the opportunity to experience the most complete and extensive collection of his works to date. In 1989, DAIM sprayed his first piece on a feeder pillar outside of his parent's house. Now, in Mirko Reisser [DAIM]: 1989 - 2014, he reflects on his fascinating artistic career that has spanned the last 25 years.By tracing the evolution of his work from illegal street art during his early career to the more recent large scale museum installations, the book offers a never-before-seen insight into the development of the artist through an extensive collection of murals, canvases, sculptures, graphics and tapings. Of the 300 images included in this book, some have never been published whilst others grant an exclusive behind-the-scenes insight into DAIM's intricate production process. The artist is one of the "few innovators" in the "versatility of linguistic expression" -Volltext. "More than a name, DAIM is a tool for experimenting with and exploring form, identity, and shapes." -Font Magazine."His artwork has mesmerized and conquered both the graffiti world and the mainstream." -Refused Magazine., Born 1971 in Luneburg (Germany), currently living in Hamburg, Mirko Reisser has become known as an artist worldwide especially for his large size graffiti works in the 3D-style, in which he depicts his writer name DAIM in serial repetition and within processes of construction and deconstruction.
