Für das beliebte Feature Be A Pro wurde nun ein Karrieremodus namens Be A Pro: Saisons integriert. Die Authentizität ist durch die Integration eines Schiedsrichter und seiner Assistenten auf dem Platz noch weiter gestiegen. Hinzu kommt, dass Zuschauer, Stadionatmosphäre und Kommentare detailreich lokalisiert wurden. Mit über 250 Neuerungen und Gameplay-Verbesserungen liefert FIFA 09 auf PlayStation 3 und Xbox 360 eine einmalig authentische Fußballsimulation. Neue Animationstechnologien beschleunigen das direkte Schießen und Passen, erlauben schnellere und kontrolliertere Dribblings und verbesserte Deckungsarbeit. Die neue Spielerphysik liefert realistische Spielerkollisionen, authentische Kämpfe um den Ball und mehr Variation bei den Tacklings. 500 neue Animationssequenzen und eine brandneue Zweikampflogik sind nur zwei der Innovationen in FIFA 09. In den Zweikämpfen sind Tempo, Richtung und Stärke beim Aufeinandertreffen der Spieler die entscheidenden Faktoren, welche über den Ballbesitz entscheiden. Die Beschleunigungsattribute wurden überarbeitet und noch reaktiver gestaltet und ebenso wurden neue Skill Moves also spezielle Tricks hinzugefügt. Jetzt kann jeder Gamer wie Ronaldinho agieren.
