The heat shield is plastic/polymer but very sturdy and I like it. I have a steel one, but I actually prefer this one. Heat shield is a bit thick, but a fiber optic front sight clears it nicely. Fit and finish are as good as a factory barrel. The Chinese can make an excellent product at a good price. Arrived quickly and on the day promised with free shipping! What's not to love?!

The heat shield is actually plastic, hopefully high temp, fiberglass reinforced but I doubt it. I guess I'll find out when I go to the range and it melts to my barrel. That's my only complaint.
