This causes them to pull to one side, and that pulling force is pretty strong with hard, crusty bread. Countering this force requires torque on the handle but that torque tends to twist the blade so the far end still pulls to one side. The blade of this knife has a nice combination of thickness and width, making it stiff enough to not twist much, so making straight cuts in hearty bread is much improved.
