      not your father's rust remover

Navy jelly, throw it away. All those rust removers you have used before that burn your skin or just don't work, toss 'em. I saw this being used on the TV car shows. They were using it on a car frame, wrapped up and covered. It worked. Buy a quart for 11 bucks and try it, that's what I did. I had a 75 year old rusted bayonet and scabbard that would need scraped, sanded and yelled at to clean up. Never would be worth nothing so I tried it. I can now smooth it with polish and blue it. Not a true collector but now sell-able for a profit. You can re-used this stuff until it is black. You can be cheap and wrap the item in paper towels and then pour a little of the stuff on. Make no mistake, soaking is best. Find the smallest Tupperware container that fits, soak a few hours. You get the inside ...

      Not Recommended (WEAK Stuff)

Pretty worthless. I had better results cleaning my tank with "Works" toilet cleaner - dissolves rust 10x better than Evapo-Rust. Also used Muriatic acid on tanks in the past. Strong stuff, but Evapo-Rust is weak, weak, weak. Not worth the cost......

    • Restoration

I'm restoring a 1940 Chevy Master Deluxe, and I wanted an alternative to media blasting. I found Evapo-rust and gave it a try. My first impression was that it was too expensive for what little it did, but then I realized that it worked well enough. I was expecting it to make the nuts and bolts in my test batch to look like new. They didn't. However, it did make them clean enough to reuse and or repaint. I'm going to try it on a much larger section of the frame next and hopefully achieve the same results. Overall, at this point, I think it's worth the investment.

    • I bought this to remove parkerizing from gun parts. It works but is slow - 3 days/week

I realize this stuff is to remove rust so I can't rate this product down too much. That said, I would not buy it to remove rust, but to remove parkerizing off some gun parts I wanted to plate. Like rust, parkerizing is a chemical reaction rather than a paint, also some people on the forums recommended this substance. It says "Environmentally safe" on the product, which it no doubt is. The executive summary is, YES it will remove parkerizing from gun parts. BUT the caveat is you will have to soak them for several days since this solution is weak compared to stronger stripping products. After realizing this I quit expecting the Evapo-rust to do all the work and just left the parts in the plastic container for a bit longer. The parkerizing will come off, but it's faster if you help it ...
