  • Highly technical, but informative.

This is worth a read if your willing to skim over a lot of technical descriptions, wherein an inadequate basis is provided with which to follow the technical description. The book provides insight into the frequently over simplified version of the enigma story. It indirectly highlights the compartmentalization that was present at Bletchley Park, which has compromised the ability of even competent historians to provide an accurate depiction of what happened and when. Overall the narrative is a bit stilted but if you are interested in this story you will still find nuggets of information here that are not found readily elsewhere. Lastly the authenticity of the book is accentuated by the appendix where the author correct inaccuracies from the first printing of the book because of the ...

  • Amazing Story!

I bought this book after seeing a story about Welchman on TV. I was somewhat familiar with the Enigma story, but Welchman, being right at the heart of it, adds a lot more detail and background. I really enjoyed this book, but, honestly, I was a bit overwhelmed with the procedural information that he shares. The level of detail that he provides on the actual process of the code breaking was more than the average person can digest, perhaps better suited for a techno-geek. I had to gloss over some of the highly detailed "how to" sections, but basically found the book to be a great read. If you love the "inside baseball" type of stories, you will really enjoy this. If you just want the "Big Picture", this might not be the right Enigma story for you.

  • Self explanatory

A well written book on a subject most people know little about.

  • Title says it all

Soft cover book was in very good shape and the price was very good. The book is the story of UK code breakers in WW-II. Won't be interesting to many people but if you are into WW-II spy work this is the book.
