Took serious scrubbing with alcohol to loosen up residue. After that, I was able to see the contacts for the mini-jack ports were both corroded. I cleaned those with vinegar. Still discolored, but I'm at least okay(ish) with plugging my gear into the unit for now. You may have actually removed the protevtive layer with your "cleaning"; Secondly, this unit never had headphones plugged in and was used once, on camera, for a recorded livestream which we still have; it was mic'd using the PO's external speaker.Lastly, only the bracket is steel.
