They actually measure 1.6 mils and they are made of polyethylene (PE), which stretches before tearing. I was fed up with polypropylene bags, that can be stronger, but tear easily. As far as cost, you can't beat the price for these. As soon as I receive the first box, I ordered a second box just to secure the price.
