It's bright and has the option to switch between a blue backlight and a amber one that is a bit a on the red side which is perfect for me. I placed the sensor for the outside temp on the a pillar but away from any water that might find its way there during rain or car washes. I have it underneath the door hinge. You want to avoid putting it near the engine because you will get false readings. It is very well made and the display is bright but not abnoxious. Nice!
