    Could be better Drill Guide

    Since I was a child (long ago) I've thought that this drill guide would be a very handy tool to have. I finally purchased one, but there are some areas that disappoint me. First, the base and cross member are a heavy weight plastic and not the die-cast parts that I expected. The base is not even level or flat on the bottom, but maybe since it is plastic, I can apply some heat and straighten this out. The cross-member does not ride smoothly down the steel rods, so I guess I'll have to lubricate [the instructions suggest this]. Lastly, the guide rods move quite independently and leave me unsure if I have them adjusted properly to get the proper angle I hope for according to the numbers cast on the sides of the base. If I need precise angles, I will not be using this tool, but for repeatable ...

    Plastic tolerances allow for too much movement

    The gig is OK if your not looking for tight tolerances. The drill is not centered in the gig (it’s 1/8” off of center). Due to the large tolerances of the holes in the plastic that slide up and down the steel rods, the drill rotates when it reaches the stop or bottom causing elongated holes of an additional 1/8”. It is OK for non-critical tolerance woodwork and makes angle drilling much easier. If I could find brass shoulder bushings to fix the slop around the rods, it might be a good tool.

    this plastic version is not recommrnded

    The current general tools plastic drill guide is an inferior product compared to the older cast metal version. the rods flex at the base connection and the base was warped and uneven. The drill chuck is stiff to tighten and has some wobble.

    Bad quality and defective

    First of all, everything is made ou of plastic except for the guides... the handle knob threads were broken and not functional, the drill shaft was bent and when you plug your drill in it wobbles like crazy making it NOT ACCURATE was the purpose of the tool.. so its pretty much useless.
