Per the manufacturer they should be bright white if they are of new quality however these are not. We have a swim spa and have ordered several in the past from Amazon and of course they were good. I contacted the seller and he tried to convince me that these were good and would absorb so I gave him the benefit of the doubt and tried them. I would like to share with you what I know about the Scumballs. Just like a sliced apple, upon exposure to oxygen, it begins to darken in color, but this does not mean it is bad. LIke all foam rubber, it does turn darker over time, and this is actually normal as well. The darker color, in our experience, does not affect the ability of the foam to attract oils and other contaminants. I use the exact same product in my own spa with great results, a
