        Great NAS

        This is really an excellent product. I'm new to advance NAS systems and it was easy and straightforward to install it and have it running. The beauty of this Synology model is that you can build your own home or office "ecosystem" starting with the simple and obvious file-sharing function and slowly scale it up with more functions and services all the way until achieving an integrated family and/or office system with it's own email, chat system, Office suite, etc. The variety of software available for the Synology family of NAS is so ample that it can solve the needs of almost any kind of users. It's a real joy to play around with this piece of hardware.

        Significant Upgrade

        Very nice device including lots of useful included "packages", or utilities. The backup utility will pay for the entire cost in less than a year compared to the monthly EaseUS Todo Backup fee. Pulled a drive from an external USB Expansion box and plugged it in to the second bay (I bought a Seagate IronWolf Pro 6TB on strong recommendations for the critical data). Network configurations are really not in my conceptual wheelhouse so I struggled a little with the setup, etc. I got it done with some grunting and groaning. I was using ReadyShare on my Netgear router but that was a little glitchy and not well supported. I also had a bad experience with Netgear call-in product support, another story for another day.
