Zebra F-301 Bold Black Ink Pen
I've been using the Zebra F-301 Bold pens since November 2012. Since that time, I've gone through over thirty of these pens and probably ten or more re-fills. While I love the smooth ball action and the super bold ink, it does skip quite often. The life span is quite short also due to the amount of ink that it uses. Overall, it's my favorite pen. That's a pretty "bold" statement (get it?) due to the number of others that I've tried.I've been using the Zebra F-301 Bold pens since November 2012. Good idea poorly executed. Good points: Overall quality of materials seems quite good. Metal and ribbed plastic for a good grip. Writes just OK. (Not great) Nice look. Fine point is nice. In theory, it's what I wanted. In reality, not what I wanted. Cap snaps on quite securely when closed and seems to be solid enough but... (now go to bad points). Bad points: So much potential, such poor execution. Cap won't snap on when open so it's sloppy to use. There's a little suction when it comes off. Could they have thought the suction would keep it on there? Who designed that? Why have it clip securely when closed but not when it's open? Defective design Could put something on there to wedge it in but shouldn't have to. Terrible design. I expected so much more from Zebra. They ... Good idea poorly executed. They had a good reputation, but this has lost me as a customer. It's not a nice pen for writing either. Nice feel when the cap isn't sliding back and forth but a cheap BIC Clik writes much nicer and Pilot or Paper Mate run circles around it, both at a fraction of the cost. Other: I bought these to be used for everyday carry to be compact EDC pen and fit in a micro EDC pouch. It'll work as a backup pen but I wanted it to be my primary pen. I'll use them for writing a quick note or signing a check perhaps but more often will reach for a better pen. Will probably just keep the bottom part as the writing pen, maybe see if a BIC cap will fit it to cover it to avoid ink spills. I really regret buying these. Not worth shipping costs to return them but I would have returned them has I bought at brick & mortar. Perils of online shopping. Much better options out there. Skip these.

These pens are really great. The refills are easy to find and last a long time in storage. I bought pens and refills 10 years ago and others have left with my pens so I bought the pens to use the refills that are 10 years old and still work great. The pens are very reliable and should be used.

How about a nice, stylish, fine retractable point pen that looks good with any clothing? How about one where the clip is sturdy and takes a reasonable amount of abuse and seldom fails? How about one that takes refills? And, to top this all off, how about one that does NOT usually leak and ruin your shirt, even if you run it through the washer and dryer? (I don't recommend this, BTW.) Does this sound too good to be true? Well, I have carried one daily for about 25 years and have ruined only about THREE shirts by forgetting to remove this pen from my pocket. Usually the ink cartridge leaks and is ruined but the ink somehow stays inside the pen. How about one that is affordable, about USD $1.50 per pen online? Great Pens.
These pens are great. Compact is what I was looking for. Writing quality is very good. I love the fine point. If I had to list a negative issue it is the fact the cap cover does not fit tightly on the pen body, and will fall off easily. I fixed this with a piece of scotch tape around the body to make a tight fit. Great pens overall.
