The Asus M5A78L-M is an exciting option for enthusiasts who require a motherboard optimized for the AMD AM3+ platform. This board uses the AMD 760G chipset and the AMD AM3 socket. AM3+ indicates support for any AMD AM3 CPU such as the FX, Phenom II, and Athlon II. The system bus supports HyperTransport 3 and achieves throughput up to 5.2 GT/s. The form factor is uATX, also called microATX, which is configured for a compact desktop computer.According to AM3 CPU specifications, these motherboards support non-ECC, unbuffered memory and employ a dual memory architecture. Each of the two provided DIMM slots can support up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM, which means 16GB of overall system memory is achievable. That DDR3 will run at between 1066 MHz and 1333 MHz by default, but you can overclock it to 1866 MHz and beyond. Add a hard drive or solid-state drive to your computer via one of six SATA 3GB/s ports. Up to six drives can be used in standalone fashion, also called JBOD, or in a RAID 0, 1, or 10 configuration.Add components to your system through four expansion slots. The Asus M5A78L-M motherboard provides one PCI-e 2.0 x16, two PCI-e 2.0 x1, and a single legacy PCI connection. If your CPU has integrated graphics, this board can take advantage of it and provides video output via an RGB port. For advanced gaming and 3D design, the M5A78L-M will also support a discreet graphics card. Onboard audio is provided via a Realtek ALC887. This chip can deliver 8-channel audio in high definition.Wired networking is possible thanks to an integrated Gigabit LAN controller from Realtek. Simply attach a network Ethernet cable to the board’s RJ-45 jack to connect. This Asus motherboard also features an AMD SB710 controller. That controller provides 10 USB 2.0 connections. Four of those connections are accessible as ports via the rear I/O panel. The other six headers are positioned mid-board and used to wire USB ports on your PC case. Other standard connectivity options include PS/2 mouse, PS/2 keyboard, D-Sub, COM, parallel, and three audio jacks.Control your Asus M5A78L-M motherboard via AMI PnP BIOS stored on 16MB of flash ROM. This board has ROG features, such as CPU Parameter Recall. CPR helps stabilize your system when an overclock fails. Other advanced features include the EPU-4 engine. This engine saves power and wear on your motherboard by monitoring total load and modulating as necessary. System cooling is also enhanced via AMD Cool 'n' Quiet Technology. CnQ throttles clock rate and voltage during idle periods. This mechanism reduces heat and helps to save power as well.In the M5A78L-M LX Plus box, Asus includes a user’s manual, an I/O shield, and two SATA II cables. A support disc is included in the box as well, and it provides drivers and other software, including an OEM anti-virus solution, PC Probe II, and Asus Update. Update is a useful tool that streamlines bringing your BIOS current whenever the manufacturer releases a new version.

    Me likey very mucho!

    It worked as I expected it to. (I own one already and liked it so much I bought another). Funny thing is that I paid a slight bit more for it used than what it originally cost me brand new back in 2014 LOL! At any rate, it's still a great product and the cost was well worth it.
