Collected in a perfect little pocket guide no horse lover will be able to resist, here are images of 96 breeds that call North America home -- galloping, playing, grazing, working, or simply striking a pose. For each breed readers will find a full-page photograph accompanied by at-a-glance conformation and historical facts. A small map shows where the breed originated, and additional information includes the horse's special qualities and its most common uses. Homegrown favorites such as the Morgan, Appaloosa, and the less-well-known Nakota and Florida Cracker horses are featured along with imported breeds that have influenced native equine bloodlines, such as the Thoroughbred, Arabian, and Percheron. From the very large (the mighty Shire) to the very small (the tiny Miniature), and everything in between, never has such a range of horse fact and photography been packed into such an appealingly small gift book. This 96-breed survey covers North America's remarkable diversity of horse breeds, from the popular and well-known to the rare and obscure.

Not exactly as described. Condition on listing "very good; damaged". Item has puncture/tear in middle of box. Wish used actual pictures instead of stock photo and "shelving wear on corners" to see actual damage. Luckily, not gifting to anyone. Shipping time was reasonable. Shipping packaging was lacking; padded envelope ONLY for a box kit, no protection. Otherwise no damage to actual kit parts. Overall satisfied with this transaction because of price for condition.

Fast shipper, item was well packed for shipping, item received was not in great condition. But seller quickly responded to the problem, and could not have been more helpful, I would gladly buy from this seller again.

  • Really handy little breed guide!

Don't let this Postcard size book fool you! A lightweight (220+ pgs) but still comprehensive book, beautifully illustrated throughout, with solid educational material on popular as well as obscure equine breeds. Published 2006. Upside: concise, to-the-point breed info perfect for the Model Horse Community needing a good source of breed documentation at Liveshows. Longears (donkeys, mules, hinnies) are covered. Downside: Exotics (zebra, zorse, zedonk, wild ass, tarpan, przewalski, and riwoche) are NOT covered here. Bottom line: Get your hands on a copy of this book for your Equine Library! You won't be sorry you did, I promise!

  • Nice pocket book

Very nice. Got the rabbit one a while back and it is extremely helpful for identifying potential breeding rabbits and their uses. Horse one is the same with great pictures and breed summaries.
