The Retron 5 is great for the gamer that does not own the original systems or wants to play your old retro games in good looking HD. It is good overall system but does not come close to 100% compatibility but will play most old games also make sure you load the latest firmware update for system. One thing that I want to point out is the system will not play light gun games. The controller for system is not very good at all but this easy fix by just buying some original controllers which work great on the system. If they would come out with one 100% compatible a better controller and light gin games worked on I would give it 5 stars instead of four.The Retron 5 is great for the gamer that does not own the original systems or wants to play your old retro games in good looking HD. Good except for the death grip pins...
Within 3 days, the nes slot pins got bent out a little because they grip the cart so tightly, and after carefully trying to bend them back, the nes slot barely works. I have to push the cart to one side to get it to download the rom to the retron 5. I recommend you lube up the pins with a tiny bit of electrical grease or some vaseline first. I did this by using an old nes game i didn't care about, even though it didn't damage the game. Great Retro Fun
This is quite an impressive console. I've seen these over the years but I never got one until the other day. I had the Retron 3 HD, which was nice until the SNES portion went out. I also have the Retron 1 HD, SupaRetron HD and MegaRetron HD. But, having all of those hooked up at once takes up too much room. I wanted another all in 1 solution to replace the Retron 3 HD, and this seemed like a logical step up from that console. Unlike those other consoles, this one uses emulation to play the games, which has advantages and disadvantages. One advantage is that it will play some NES cartridges that won't play on system on a chip hardware clones, like Afterburner and Gauntlet. I have both of those and neither work with SOC clones, but they run like champs on the Retron 5. It's also nice having ... This is quite an impressive console. I've seen these over the years but I never got one until the other day. I had the Retron 3 HD, which was nice until the SNES portion went out. It's also nice having a dedicated slot for Famicom games, since I own a handful of them and had to use an adapter for them previously. On the negative side, I haven't been able to get any homebrews or reproduction carts to work on this, despite the box claiming they will. I have a couple games I backed on Kickstarter and neither will work, but they will on some SOC clones. Also, the more recent licensed releases from Retro-Bit: Holy Diver, R-Type 2 pack and Jaleco Brawler's pack won't work. As far as classic cartridges go, I had graphical issues with Ms. Pac-Man for the NES (black Tengen cartridge) and there was no sound when racing on Top Gear 2 for the SNES. Also, VirtuaRacing for the Genesis won't work, but I really wasn't expecting it to. Still, with 130 cartridges tested, I have less than 10 that won't work. I don't own any GameBoy Advance cartridges, but I own original GameBoy and GameBoy Color carts and those work great. The ones enhanced for the Super GameBoy will play with the enhancements, such as special color schemes and border art, which is nice. I've also tested some Master System games using the Power Base Mini adapter and they work great. So, the compatibility isn't bad at all. The hardware itself is solid. I've not had any issues with the cartridge slots being too tight. Though, I have a more recent release, the box has a 2021 copyright and it came with the latest firmware already installed. So, it's possible they fixed those cartridge slot issues. I know they have worked on their pin connectors in recent years. The controller the console comes with is hot garbage, but luckily I have lots of controllers, both classic and after market controllers to use. So, who is this console for? People like me. I have some old cartridges, some that I bought as far back as 25 years ago. And I still buy cartridges for these systems. I just wanted to play them, I'm not hung up on the perfect gaming experience. I honestly couldn't tell you if some of these game are running a little bit differently than they did originally. I'm sure some are, but that really doesn't bother me. I live in an apartment, so I don't really have room for a CRT with a bunch of systems hooked up to it, I play games on my 55" UHDTV in my living room. This console does what I need it to, it runs my old cartridges. So, if you're like me and you just want to play some good old games on a modern TV, this is the way to go.

Wanted to play all types of games but of course I have to find them. So, far I've played my SEGA Genesis games and they work fantastic! I played GBA games and my only complaint is the sound is awful like nails on a chalk board but that only happens on the GameBoy games because they technically aren't supposed to be played on a tv lol! When I find even older games I'll update my review but I'm really happy with it. Especially since my actual SEGA's AV cable has been going out on me!Wanted to play all types of games but of course I have to find them.
