The material is heavyish and soft. They are not see-through! The light compression and a high waist means no roll. I have a thick belly and thin legs and shorts are excellent. There is a pocket on each side that is nice and deep, I like them and will probably order more. I bought the size 2X , thick waist? Yep! Covers and compression is stellar.
