Affordable Power from an Older Platform

It seemed to me as if the AM3 socket had shown it's age compared to newer processors since I'd switched to intel a couple years back. If you're willing to shell out a few bucks, this is not true at all. For $90, I got this amazing six core cpu (most of the power which I don't really need). I paired it with my Gigabyte motherboard from a few years ago (which I still love), 12gb of assorted 1600mhz DDR3 RAM, two 1tb WD green HDDS, and a 60gb Patriot Torch SSD to boot from. The benchmarks I get are more than I'll ever need. I put together this rig for gaming at school with a Radeon 7770, while I left my Dell Precision at home (which has a xeon that outperforms this, but is more expensive). I really just wanted to revive my old AM3 board for a decent and fast setup, and that's exactly what I ...

  • Phenom 6 cores

I had a 1090t for years, built an i7-2600 and an i5-2500 because everything says they're so much faster. With a fresh install of nothing but win7 and ripping software they were much faster. However, after loading all the other programs I used and a couple of games, the speed came down to about the same. And the i5 was much worse at multitasking than the 6 core. So the only real benefit I see now is a slightly lower electric bill. I had enough parts left over that I built another phenom 6 core 1045t, even this multitasking is faster than the i5. Sure, speed tests show them both to be faster, but real life, I am not seeing it.

  • Older Phenom II gets the most out of older boards!

Great upgrade for an older motherboard! The brand new systems my employer is buying have a CPU with a Benchmark speed of 4711. This CPU was used to upgrade several older systems, and has a benchmark of 4851. So we were able to get another couple of years out of older units for a cost of $50-60, instead of buying newer systems at 8-10 times the cost!

  • Gave life back to old system

Really impressed Had Windows 10 on a dual core and then got this one. What a difference everything is quick and fast to respond. Saved me from buying a new system. Best $56.00 I spent
