    Not quite as big as the previous edition, still good

    It's a shame this book is no longer being written and revised anymore because it is the king of small arms information, operating instructions and dissasembly all in one book. Written in a concise but interesting style,, covers all the world's main battle rifles and machine guns too. Covers every large nations armory of small arms,country by country, as it was when this book went to print anyway. There's even a whole chapter just on WW2 small arms, It would be hard to find better reading for any small arms fan, or a great gift for a gun buff.

    The Authoritative Book on Small Arms of the World

    This is "the" book to have for the generalist on the world's small arms. Since it first appeared in 1943, every subsequent edition continued to expand over the first with ever more information until W. H. B. Smith relinquished his roll as author to Edward Ezell. This is the last edition in the series, with nearly 900 pages--multiple times larger than the 1943 edition and twice the size of the 1948 4th edition.
