Synopsis
Ray Atlee is a professor of law at the University of Virginia. He's forty-three, newly single, and still enduring the aftershocks of a surprise divorce. He has a younger brother, Forrest, who redefines the notion of a family's black sheep. And he has a father, a very sick old man who lives alone in the ancestral home in Clanton, Mississippi. He is known to all as Judge Atlee, a beloved and powerful official who has towered over local law and politics for forty years. No longer on the bench, the Judge has withdrawn to the Atlee mansion and become a recluse. With the end in sight, Judge Atlee issues a summons for both sons to return home to Clanton, to discuss the details of his estate. It is typed by the Judge himself, on his handsome old stationery, and gives the date and time for Ray and Forrest to appear in his study. Ray reluctantly heads south, to his hometown, to the place where he grew up, which he prefers now to avoid. But the family meeting does not take place. The Judge dies too soon, and in doing so leaves behind a shocking secret known only to Ray. And perhaps someone else., #1 NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER * A pillar of the community who towered over local law and politics for forty years, Judge Atlee is now a shadow of his former self--a sick, lonely old man who has withdrawn to his sprawling ancestral home in Clanton, Mississippi. My package was intentionally damaged by someone during transit, through no fault of the seller. The package was good and sufficient to protect it, but as mentioned, someone decided to damage it with a knife. Upon contact, the seller has been reactive very helpful to try and find a solution, which was ultimately reached through eBay customers service. It was clear that the book sold was in the state described on the page prior to being sent, so 10/10 would buy again with them.

Everything was ok. Fast shipping. Well packaged. Good communication with the seller. Book is just as described. The photos in the ad are of the Book itself! I loved this Book!! :) It is part of the history of the Microsoft, Z80 Microprocessor and Apple old computer!! The Book is very rare and is very well preserved! My collection is cooler now! :) I recommend the seller to everyone! I'm very satisfied! Thanks!

Item as described. Packaging could have been better. It was shipped in a USPS booklet bag with no additional bubble wrap or cardboard protection. Slip Cover was dinged pretty good and will need replacement. After ordering a replacement slip cover from LOA - it ends up only about $4 cheaper than buying new from LOA. All in all - not a great value.

  • One of John Grisham's best!

This is one of my favorite John Grisham books. I like having my own copy to read it whenever I wish to. A great mystery story!

  • Fits the story well.

I like the book because the story line goes along with previous stories of Grisham's I have read. He uses some of the same people portrayed in his other books. It makes the reader feel you are right at home reading because you know the characters.
