Synopsis
Beginning with the emergence of Western penal methods in the seventeenth century, the noted French philosopher explores the role of prisons in society and shows that prisons today, as always, simply define, refine, and perpetuate crime. Reprint. NYT., A brilliant work from the most influential philosopher since Sartre. In this indispensable work, a brilliant thinker suggests that such vaunted reforms as the abolition of torture and the emergence of the modern penitentiary have merely shifted the focus of punishment from the prisoner's body to his soul.

  • How to stand up against authoritarianism

Foucault foremost thinker of France. There is therefore little that needs to be said about him except that he frames the contemporary issues in a polemical form. What he says in a powerful rhetorical way makes you take interest in what is happening around and that is beneficial in many ways. If you are espousing a cause read him in depth. He gives you to think about and frame your thoughts.
