The bell shows age and patina. In my opinion, the brass mount is not original, but was found attached as shown at an estate sale. The bell rings loud and clear. The indented letters of USN are uneven, with the S indented enough for a repair behind and the N much lighter. It is possible that this was originally a "US" bell and someone later added the "N". Please view the photos carefully to evaluate the condition for yourself.”
