It does not come with any kind of grates for the animal to stay out of the poop/tinkles. The trays are extremely shallow and flimsy. If you put bedding in this cage it will come through the cracks where the trays slides in and out when your pet moves around. If you have a pet who is heavier or chews a lot, this is probably not an option. We used for a miniature rabbit.
