      Sony Repair/Update

      I sent my Sony ICF-SW1 to Keith Electronics for repair of a chronic capacitor issue with virtually all units of this particular model. By the age of 25 years, decayed capacitors would not allow the unit to play through the speaker, leaving the only possibility as listening with headphones. The service provided by Keith Electronics replaced faulty capacitors, and the accessory light with an LED. It was a 'set', reasonable price; I sent the unit to them, and it was repaired and returned to me within a couple of days. All I can say is that the service was prompt, reliable, and reasonable in price. I am very pleased and would highly recommend these folks and their work to others.

      This is a convenient way to get your Sony ICW-SW1 going.

      The kit has replacements for all the vulnerable electrolytic capacitors. The parts match the originals in size, value, and voltage rating. The included LED is optional, but it is much brighter than the original. It's hard to buy these parts in small quantities, so the kit is good value if you need to fix one radio (or a few.)

      Not for the inexperienced!

      These are exact replacements for the capacitors that need to be replaced in these radios and the LED is a great improvement. It takes a steady hand and a very fine tip soldering iron to do the job. If you are not familiar with working on miniature electronics and surface mount parts, I would not recommend trying it. There are some videos on YouTube that are helpful. My radio sounds great now!

      If you own a Sony ICF-SW1 and it's motor boating and distorted it's time to send it to the guys at Keith-Electronics! This is a total restoration service. My radio works and plays like new again! And the LED light upgrade for the display is excellent! I wish I could rate 10 stars!
