Abgeleitet von dem lateinischen Verb "movere", bezieht sich der Begriff Motivation auf Dinge, die den Menschen etwas tun lassen und ihn in Bewegung versetzen. Was auch in dem vorangestellten Zitat deutlich wird ist, dass dieser Bewegungstatbestand vor allem in der heutigen Arbeitswelt von hoher Bedeutung ist, da die Gesamtheit der derzeitigen Arbeitsumst nde, wie zum Beispiel die permanente Unsicherheit, zwischenmenschliche Rivalit ten und enormer Leistungsdruck, nicht unbedingt motivierend wirkt. Der bergang von einer Produktionsindustriegesellschaft in eine wissensintensive Dienstleistungsgesellschaft schreitet voran, wobei Informationen, Wissen und Kreativit t eine erfolgsentscheidende Bedeutung f r die unternehmerische Wertsch pfung darstellen. Die Mitarbeiter eines Unternehmens sind mit ihrem Humankapital ein Erfolgsfaktor von besonders hoher Bedeutung, was sich im Hinblick auf den demographischen Wandel sogar noch verst rken wird. F hrungskr fte der Unternehmen m ssen mehr und mehr in der Lage sein, die emotionalen Signale der Mitarbeiter richtig zu deuten und entsprechend darauf zu reagieren. Motivation und Arbeitszufriedenheit sind m gliche Handlungsgebiete, mit deren Hilfe der Einsatz von Mitarbeitern effizienter gestaltet werden kann. Die vorliegende Arbeit beginnt mit einer grundlegenden Einf hrung in die Motivationspsychologie, in der die unterschiedlichen Theoriemodelle vorgestellt werden und eine Einordnung der VIE - Theorie von VICTOR VROOM (1964) erm glicht wird.
