    This ultra telephoto zoom lens covers a range of focal lengths from 50mm to 500mm ultra telephoto. This lens is equipped with Sigma's unique OS (Optical Stabilizer) function. This system enables hand held photography for many types of subjects such as motor sports, airplanes, close-up and wildlife. Four SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements provide excellent correction of color aberration throughout the entire zoom range. Incorporation of HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) ensures quiet and high speed AF, while allowing full-time manual focus override.

      Loved the old 50-500mm, Love the new one even more!

      The Optical Stabilization works beautifully. The enables 1) lower light shooting, 2) hand held shooting in more situations, 3) the 2X tele-extender, which must be used with manual focus, is usable with this lens! The sun shade is improved since the older model. Be aware that you should use only Sigma brand filters with this lens, even "sky light", or you can get very bad internal reflection problems.

      Awesome lens awesome heavy

      This lens is unbelievably good with its image stabilization. You can actually hand hold it at 500. It is very heavy and deserves its heavyweight reputation. It's not going to replace any regular lens but when you need a long lens this is a great choice.

      I have another of the same lens in DX format. Great glass that allows you to get in really close. For an outdoor shoot you can go the entire day without having to change the lens.
