Despite the Atlans hating and condemning him, he teaches them how to fight the Nemalites' Shaltine warriors and gains the trust of the Atlan queen Nafron. However, a disastrous battle seems to shatter the Atlans' hopes - leaving Hector and Nafron hunted by hundreds of their enemies... Hector's Atlan comrades foresee their own defeat, followed by the conquest of Hector's world. They are outnumbered, outmatched and demoralised. How can they overcome: The Nemalites, who can forge armies with magic... The Shaltine - giant, fearless, tireless automatons... The Viron, the malevolent living gods of the Nemalites, deep beneath the impenetrable city of Vir...
