    I've been wanting something like this for years because it seems I often buy leather shoes that are too narrow near the toes, especially pointy pumps

    I dampened the inner toe box with 50% alcohol and water and then put the stretcher in and widenened it till I could see and hear the leather stretch. Left it in overnight. The next day I tried on the shoe and it was just a little bit looser but noticeably more comfortable. I could have probably cranked it more but I didn't want to damage the shoe. Next night I did the other shoe. Now I have shoes that I can wear more comfortably.
