      Get. This. ASAP.

Look. I'm a beginner at this whole photography thing. I'd been shooting with a D3300 and just basically wanted a better sensor. I'm a Licensed Barber and got my first camera to take pics of haircuts. Then people started asking about shoots. My first was 3200, then the 3300. Nikon hit a home run with this one. The images are absolutely GORGEOUS. Mind you, I invested in a decent lens. I have a Sigma 30mm 1.4. That lens coupled with this 5500 is about to be wonderful. If you're thinking about buying this camera, stop. Just click "buy it now" STAT.

    • Not so low tier

This is an excellent camera all around. Often professionals try to sell this one as an entry-level DSLR or a consumer only oriented camera. But I think this is wrong. As a professional, i've enjoyed using the Nikon D5500 for nearly every situation a professional photographer could possibly think, like shooting weddings, portraits at the studio, landscape and also shooting videos. The image quality is excellent, it is on par with what everyone else considers "professional" gear. The video quality is great, and the camera is so light and easy to use its a joy to use it. Highly recommend it.

    • Great camera

I have to read a photography book just to get the most out of this, but it is very easy to use. I am giving 4 stars because the SD card it came with did not work. The camera displayed a message that said something like "this card may not be used, it may be corrupted." Not a huge deal, but still a bummer since I couldn't use the camera until I went out and bought another one.

    • Good starter camera

Not as sophisticated as the D7200. Pretty much a basic DSLR good for a beginner camera. Very light and easy to hold this would be good for a woman.
