Le roman de Flaubert reprend le m me sujet selon des r gles narratives enti rement neuves, r inventant le roman d'apprentissage pour lui donner une profondeur et une acuit nouvelle. Malgr la critique n gative lors de sa parution, il est devenu, depuis Marcel Proust, un livre de r f rence pour les romanciers du xxe si cle. L' ducation sentimentale est le fruit de trois essais de jeunesse de Flaubert. Ainsi de janvier 1843 janvier 1845 il produit une premi re ducation sentimentale qui succ dait la r daction de Novembre, achev le 25 octobre 1842, et une toute premi re bauche de jeunesse intitul e M moires d'un fou en 1838. Le roman d finitif est r dig partir de septembre 1864 et achev le 16 mai 1869 au matin., Le coeur du récit est lui-même tiré du roman de Sainte-Beuve, Volupté, qu'Honoré de Balzac avait déjà traité et d'une certaine manière réécrit avec le Lys dans la vallée. Le roman de Flaubert reprend le même sujet selon des règles narratives entièrement neuves, réinventant le roman d'apprentissage pour lui donner une profondeur et une acuité nouvelle. Malgré la critique négative lors de sa parution, il est devenu, depuis Marcel Proust, un livre de référence pour les romanciers du xxe siècle.L'Éducation sentimentale est le fruit de trois essais de jeunesse de Flaubert.
