With ebay's help I initiated a return. Seller contacted me offering a 4 USD refund and I keep the item. I explained to the seller that all I really wanted was the coupler. The seller came back with an offer of 8 USD refund and I keep the item, I asked the seller to just send the coupler and that it would cost me 18 USD to buy it locally.
