Truthfully, we are partial to Fords built from 1940-1948. We realize that is a large spectrum of cars, but that was a turbulent time for our nation and the world. During that period many cars from this era carried moonshine in the South before, during, and after the Prohibition era and WWII. The good ol’ boys would soup up their cars to haul their illegal booty, and then ran from the law as if the devil was chasing them.

When they weren’t running from the law, those whiskey-runners raced each other on the local highways and country back roads. After someone came up with the idea of building a crude track in someone’s cow pasture somewhere, dirt track racing evolved to what we know as NASCAR today.

Numerous Fords have been heavily modified from this period, but this sedan’s pre-1950s appearance is hard to replicate. This was the last of its kind before the shoebox Fords debuted in 1949. We love that this car still has some sort of flathead engine too. Yes it could’ve easily been transplanted with something else, and a Mercury flathead wouldn’t have been stock with this Ford, but we love the sound of any type of flathead Ford engine.

So a short recap:
Stock car racing roots? Check.
A close to stock cosmetic appearance? Check.
And finally, that flathead engine sound that is nearly impossible to replicate? Check indeed.

Sometimes it is the post-war, plain-Jane cars that make us wish we could go back in time to experience the backwoods shenanigans that occurred in that rambunctious period. People often say, “If these walls could talk…” Why not say, “If this car’s engine or whitewalls could talk…” We bet this hunk of Detroit iron has seen a lot in its time because it’s a type of survivor that you don’t often see. This ‘non- hotrod’ with minimal customization, but most likely some rejuvenation, was built to run. We admit we’re a bit partial to this type of Ford, but there is a lot to like and a lot right with this classic car.
