Kawasaki once touted its GPz750 Turbo sportbike as the fastest production motorcycle in the world. In stock form, the GPz750’s turbocharged inline-four puts out a lofty 112 horsepower and breaks into the 10s in the quarter-mile. But the modified ’85 GPz750 Turbo recently offered on eBay punches even harder.
For starters, Georgia-based Tim’s CBX modified the stock 738cc engine, bumping it to 810cc courtesy of a big bore kit. The larger Wiseco pistons are generously fed by GPz1000 intakes while oiling modifications borrowed from Kawasaki’s ZX7 improve flow. A K&N air filter helps the beefed-up powerplant breathe deeper.

Turbo Reimagined
The aftermarket engine mods make this 1985 GPz750 Turbo a unique example of a model already beloved for its innovative turbocharger. Kawasaki didn’t take the path followed by competing turbo bikes.
Kawasaki mounted a Hitachi HT-10B turbocharger in front of the cylinders next to the exhaust ports. Its engineers managed to squeeze four heat-resistant steel pipes in 7.5 inches of space, running them from the ports to a collector—and then to the compact Hitachi turbocharger.
As a result, turbo lag became virtually non-existent. Crack the throttle for instant gratification.
Charlie Evergreen, the master turbo builder from Ocala, Fla., took matters one step further by overhauling the turbo of the GPz750 for sale on eBay.
Finally, the motorcycle’s electronic control module (ECM) digitally monitors engine speed, throttle opening, intake, and engine/air temp to ensure the turbo is running optimally. The ECM uses its Race Mode, so this baby is ready to boogie.
More Than the Gauges Can Handle
The ’85 bike’s special Kawasaki silver livery further sets this GPz750 Turbo apart from its peers. The bike’s full front fairing is a solid palette for the striking silver and black paint scheme. Fun fact about the fairing: It has an aluminum frame member integrated between the downtubes, which helps protect the turbo unit and adds rigidity to the double steel cradle frame.
The hyper Turbo’s list of high-performance parts include:
- Dyna S ignition system
- EBC rotors
- HKS boost controller
- Viton clutch dampers
The current owner says the boost gauge he mounted above the stock display gauges “taps out” if you’re really getting on it.

In its short two-year run, Kawasaki only sold 3,500 of its GPz750 Turbos in the US. Riders flogged them without mercy. So, who knows how many of those survived the last 36 years?
Kawasaki got things right with its turbocharger, fostering a dedicated following for the GPz750 Turbo. The custom go-faster modifications on the ’85 GPz750 Turbo, recently offered on eBay, make this exceptional bike an even more remarkable example of motorcycle performance engineering.
