Douglas Tires Offer Big Value for a Low Price

Wheels & Tires  /   /  By Jim Prueter

It’s said that good things are seldom cheap, and cheap things are seldom good, but Douglas Tires is an exception.

Some drivers avoid low-cost tires because they may not be safe. However, Douglas puts its tires through in-depth safety testing to meet or exceed tire standards and regulations.

After research, numerous replacement tire shoppers looking for high-quality tires at a low cost frequently choose the Douglas brand. Here are a few of Douglas’s most popular tires that meet those standards for a variety of vehicles.

Douglas All-Season: All-Season Comfort for Cars and Crossovers

Douglas All-Season

Douglas All-Season

$55 To $115 per tire
Douglas makes more than 100 tires, all using the same all-season branding. Douglas has an all-season tire and size for almost every passenger vehicle. Customer feedback indicates a smooth, quiet ride, very good dry pavement cornering grip, and traction. Consumers are less confident about these tires on wet pavement and in icy conditions.

Most customers say they are satisfied with the tires considering their low cost and accept they aren’t the best for wear and winter driving. All Douglas all-season tires and sizes come with a 45,000-mile guarantee.

Douglas Performance: A Better Performing All-Season Tire for Most Vehicles

Douglas Performance tire

Douglas Performance

$95 To $125 per tire
A bit of a misnomer, the Performance is still an all-season tire and one of the brand’s most popular models. Drivers report excellent grip and dry road performance, substantially improved over the Douglas All-Season tire. This tire is less capable in harsh wintry conditions. Bottom line, other than winter conditions, there is no reason to be concerned about putting this tire on your vehicle.

Douglas All-Season tires feel good behind the wheel and are responsive with good cornering and braking performance, and are generally smooth and quiet on the highway. The tires comes with an H speed rating (up to 130 mph) and a 45,000-mile treadwear warranty.

Douglas Performance GT-H: Better High Speed and Heavy Rain Performing

$60 to $100 per tire
This competitor for the Douglas Performance is recommended for most private passenger vehicle types—and they have a lot in common. What you get with the GT-H over the Performance is better high-speed handling, cornering, and  performance in the rain. These tires are above average in avoiding hydroplaning thanks to multiple circumferential grooves that evacuate water from the tread area. Both the Performance and GT-H deliver similar performance in harsh winter—which doesn’t always get the best reviews.

Where the GT-H falls short by comparison is the tread life warranty. It is covered to only 40,000 miles and is less efficient in terms of fuel economy. We recommend the GT-H especially if you’re a more spirited driver. And one more benefit—they cost less than the Douglas Performance tire.

About Douglas Tires

Douglas Tires is owned and manufactured by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. Douglas is among the most cost-effective tire brands. But even with their low price, Douglas tires can provide outstanding safety and performance for the right application. If you don’t do a lot of high-speed or winter driving and most of your driving is city-suburban commuting, and price is a major consideration, Douglas tires are worth a look—especially considering the treadlife warranty.
