The Incredible 2022 Custom Color-Shifting Chameleon Motorcycle

A century ago, motorcycle racers risked their lives speeding around wooden tracks with steeply banked turns. They traveled at triple-digit speeds on board-track motorcycles with skinny tires and no brakes.

Corey Mauck of Aero Precision Metal Works captured the spirit of these vintage racers with his latest eye-catching custom build. The bike, dubbed Chameleon, is for sale now on eBay.

A Jewel-Like Sheen

The bike’s striking three-dimensional Stiletto wheels are made by performance specialists SMT Machining of Glendale, Ariz. The tall and skinny 26-inch wheels were milled from forged billet aluminum.

Big wheels need big power, so Chameleon has no shortage of oomph—thanks to its 127 cubic-inch Ultima El Bruto mill.

Mauck said:

It’s pretty much as big as you can get. I designed the frame around the engine.

An S&S Super G carb feeds the monster V-Twin, while a set of Street Sweeper exhausts adds more attitude to the mix. The powertrain package was chromed and polished to a jewel-like sheen.

The hardtail frame was made from scratch using heavy-duty .120 DOM steel tubing. In addition to bending and welding up the frame, Mauck designed and built the girder-style front end.

The girder features a hand-adjustable air shock that makes it easy to stiffen or soften the front end—and to dial in the rebound. While the rigid tail section offers no buffer from bumps in the road, the seat is equipped with a small kidney-saving spring.

The one-off pieces that highlight this captivating custom go beyond the frame and front end. The pressure-sealed aluminum gas cap and oil tank cap are also Mauck’s handiwork. In addition, he got creative with the oil tank by mounting it vertically in a canister affixed to the right-side rear of the frame—not under the seat. Custom paint helps the oil tank blend naturally into the design.

Every Drop of Sunshine

The lustrous paint job carries the bike’s design flow. The metal flake does a dandy job of catching and reflecting every drop of sunlight. Though the Frisco Wassel-style tank provides a small canvas, painter Adam Paul of Time Warp Custom Paint was able to squeeze in clean stripes.

The metal flake and airbrushing create a dramatic color-shifting effect. The motorcycle subtly changes from dark blue to sapphire with orange and silver metal flake. Hence, the bike’s name: Chameleon. Like the custom paint, the tooling on the leather seat is exemplary.

Airbrushing the Aero Precision Metal Works logo makes it stand out and adds dimension to the hand-tooled scrolls.

Mauck said he believes the biggest challenge to building a custom motorcycle is being original. Mission accomplished. The custom Chameleon board-track cruiser for sale on eBay drips with creativity—from its 26-inch 3D wheels to its polished powertrain.
