This Race-Bred 2002 Ducati 998 Has Less than 900 Miles

Motorcycle enthusiasts are quite familiar with Italian manufacturer Ducati and its premium performance bikes. It’s the same fame bestowed on the limited-run high-end sports cars from Lamborghini—Ducati’s parent company.

But the 2002 Ducati 998 example for sale on eBay is even more special. This extraordinary 20-year-old performance bike has just 896 miles of use.

Racing Heritage

The 2002 Ducati looks like it just left the showroom. It’s a step back in time. A clean history report confirms there has been just one owner since new, with no reported incidents or damage during that time.

The 998 model, with its 90-degree V-twin engine design, provides quality craftsmanship, agile handling, and a distinctive soundtrack.

The Ducati features dramatic dual upswept pipes.

Ducati powers the bike using a race-bred 998cc, fuel-injected two-cylinder engine with four valves per cylinder and liquid cooling. The power plant pumps out an impressive 123-horsepower at 9,750 rpm and is paired with a six-speed manual transmission.

With a curb weight of just 436.5 pounds, the Ducati 998 has more than enough power for public streets and the track. A similar Ducati won the World Superbike Championship in 2001, while another took top prizes at Macau Grand Prix in 2002 and 2003.

Rare Yet Affordable

The motorcycle’s steel tube frame is equipped with a Showa front fork and fully-adjustable Ohlins rear suspension. The setup ensures controlled handling in the corners—while twin-disc four caliper Brembo front brakes and a single rear disc brake offers secure stops.

The factory red and white paint gleams like new, and all the original fairings, decals, and windscreen remain unblemished. The fuel tank is free of dents or damage. There is hardly any wear on the monoposto solo seat—no rips or tears—as would be expected in a bike with such low mileage.

Ducati built only about 980 examples of the 998 over a three-year run—from 2002 to 2004. And just about 560 of those in the Monoposto configuration, like the bike for sale on eBay. That makes any 998 a rare find these days. But to find such an original and unmodified example is even more remarkable.

The Buy-It-Now price of $15,895 equates to the best of both worlds. It’s like buying a classic and a brand new motorcycle at the same time.
