Time-Capsule Triumph TR6 With Just 7,300 Miles

Classics, European  /   /  By Jim Travers

Introduced in 1969, the Triumph TR6 combined traditional British sports car appeal, contemporary styling, seating for two, and a powerful six-cylinder engine. The TR6 quickly became a favorite of driving enthusiasts and remained popular throughout its seven-year production run.

Today, the TR6 is a highly sought-after collector car. But finding one in top original condition is almost impossible.

But check this out: eBay is currently offering perhaps the most well-preserved and cared-for TR6 examples on the planet. The 1971 TR6 now available on eBay has just 7,376 miles showing on the odometer.

Paint Readings Included

This ’71 TR6 was not restored, because it doesn’t need anything. The roadster shows like a new car—right down to the original paint, glass, trim, and Goodyear red-stripe tires. Previous owners replaced the battery, coolant hoses, and spark plug wires, all of which are period-correct components. But that’s it.

The gleaming Saffron Yellow paint is virtually flawless. The listing included paint thickness readings. The original chrome bumpers and trim shine like new.

More than 170 photographs and a video document the car’s excellent condition. Many of the pictures are accompanied by notations by the seller. The images tell the story—and hide nothing.

Many close-up shots vividly display the excellent condition of this car. One image shows the carpet pulled back to reveal body-colored floors as solid as when they left the factory. The driver’s door panel is still covered in the original protective plastic.

Immaculate Inside and Out

Inside, the cockpit, the tan bucket seats, matching carpets and door panels, and the original wood dashboard are just like new. They display the care that went into preserving this car over the years.

The TR6 was sold new in Nashville, Tenn. In the half-century since that transaction, ownership transferred to merely two other owners—both provided exceptional care. This TR6 is an extraordinary find.

The immaculate engine compartment houses the original 2.5-liter, six-cylinder engine, which starts right up and runs well. Paired with a four-speed manual transmission, the TR6 produces more than enough power to keep pace with today’s traffic. Moreover, it emits a satisfying growl through the gears.

At $67,500, this 1971 TR6 is the most expensive by far of the 18 or so examples currently available on eBay. But it’s arguably the finest original and unrestored TR6 available anywhere. And if anything eventually needs replacing, you can peruse eBay’s marketplace that offers nearly 20,000 parts for the Triumph TR6.
