Due to the many different size wheel hub flange sizes, many of these spoke protectors fit poorly. Because of a poor fit the spoke protector center hole either is too small or too large so it rattles. One option is to secure the spoke protector to several (more than 3) spokes wirh zip-ties. I drilled 8 small holes in my spoke protector and used 4 zip-ties to secure the spoke protector to 4 sets of spokes where the spokes crossed each other.
There is nothing wrong with the spoke protector per say, just that there are too many hub sizes and most listing do not list the opening size.
I still think $6 is way too much money for a small piece of plastic that will be cracked in a few years due to sun exposure. I used a plastic lid from a 3lb coffee can in a pinch. Cost? maybe .25 cents. Maybe even .10 cents.
This product is a direct replacement for the previous one that broke when my chain jammed between the cassette and this protector. The only way to get the chain out was to break this protector. I'm GLAD that it eventually broke and that the spokes were undamaged. This item seems to be well made; it can flex enough to fit between spokes and attach to the hub properly. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it doesn't lay flat against the spokes. I don't know if that's the fault of the product, the spokes, the lacing of the wheel or what. If it breaks again I will definitely purchase again. (and maybe I'll just purchase a spare to have around).
