They keep the nasties out! Worth every penny.
I spend a lot of time tramping around in the outdoors (geocaching) which leads to all sorts of things getting into my hiking boots, dirt, rocks, ticks, weed seeds, poison ivy, plants, etc. After one trip where my socks completely changed colors with the number of weed seeds I picked up (I would have just thrown the socks out had they not been Darn Tough socks) I vowed to get a pair of lightweight gaiters so this would never happen again. These gaiters have been the best investment I have made recently. Since I started using them I have not had a single thing get into my boot or onto my sock. I have wandered through mud, across sharp rocks, through stickers and thorns, through tree branches, climbed trees, waded through marshes, and they have held up great (they are rather dirty though). Good Gaiters
This is a great product which kept my pants bottoms from getting torn and ripped. They are fairly simple, well made and performed almost perfectly. The reason I have given them four out of five stars is because I need to adjust them every so often because the width (one drawback of big legs) will always slip down below my calf muscles. I've used low gaiters for years and consider them essential trail/off-trail gear. They keep dust and mud off of socks and out of boots and also keep biting insects off of ankles and off of legs when worn with long pants.
